Mental Health First Aid training for managers
This is the same FAA Level 2 Award in First Aid for Mental Health (RQF), a nationally recognised qualification awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA), an Ofqual-regulated awarding organisation, and delivered through Nuco Training. The difference is that it’s designed around a manager’s day-to-day. We look at the impact managers have on the mental health of their team, good and bad, and what that means in practice: how to create a team environment where people’s mental health is more likely to thrive, and the confidence to have difficult conversations when someone may be struggling.
By the end of the training, managers will:
-
How you manage has a real effect on your team’s mental health, for better and for worse. We look honestly at the everyday habits that can support wellbeing or add to stress, and what to do more and less of.
-
Changes in performance, mood, timekeeping or behaviour can all be early signals. Learn to notice the quieter signs, including in high performers who seem to be coping fine.
-
Understand how stress builds and when it becomes a problem, and how six common mental health conditions, such as anxiety and depression, can show up in the workplace. The aim is to respond with understanding rather than assumptions.
-
Managers aren’t therapists. Get clear on your responsibilities, when to involve HR or occupational health, and how to point someone towards professional support, including in a crisis.
-
Build the confidence to check in properly, listen without judging, and handle conversations sensitively where changes in performance or behaviour may be linked to someone’s mental health. You’ll practise conversations that are both kind and clear.
-
Look at the everyday habits, language and behaviours that make it safe for people to talk about their mental health, and the part everyone can play in creating that culture.
“Fantastic in-person training with Sarah, who is an expert facilitator. This potentially emotive subject and content is delivered in a way that gives you grounded insight, practical tools and clarity of your role as a Mental Health First Aider. As a leader, this has expanded my awareness to support my team even more. I would highly recommend.”
Your training options
Team Training
Accredited training for your team, suitable for all levels, in person or online. It covers how to recognise warning signs, respond with confidence, and contribute to a genuinely positive mental health culture at work.
Manager Training
The same qualification, shaped around what managers specifically need to know — the impact they have on their team’s mental health, how to improve mental health culture and how to open the difficult conversations.
Open Courses
Only got one or two people to train? Join an open course alongside other businesses, in person or online. It’s the same accredited training, with the added benefit of learning in a mixed group.
Every manager leaves with practical, confident skills: how to notice, how to start the conversation, and how to know what happens next. That’s true whether or not they go on to sit the formal assessment.
If your managers want the nationally recognised qualification too, that’s built in — a short assessment at the end leads to the FAA Level 2 Award in First Aid for Mental Health (RQF), valid for three years. If not, that’s fine. There’s no pressure either way; the goal is managers who feel equipped, with or without the certificate.
